Sedation dentistry is appropriate for those who have a low pain threshold, high dental anxiety, sensitive teeth, or need extensive dental work. It is safe, effective, and ensures that our patients have a pleasant experience while in our office.
Our doctors utilizes oral conscious sedation, an extremely common technique for dental sedation. It is easy and does not require the use of needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our Gwinnett dental office. You remain awake or very sleepy throughout the entire procedure and are able to breathe on your own, but will be in a deep state of relaxation.
If you are undergoing extensive surgical procedures or have anxiety that isn’t well-controlled with oral sedation, our in-house oral surgeon is qualified to offer IV sedation. You will be given a sedative to take before you arrive at our office. Once here, we will gently place an IV and administer the medication. During the procedure, you will go between consciousness and unconsciousness, and will not be able to respond to commands even if you are awake at times during the procedure. Once your treatment is complete, you will have little or no memory of the appointment.
If you receive oral conscious sedation or IV sedation, we ask that you not eat or drink for 12 hours before your appointment. We also recommended that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your appointment. After your treatment, you should not drive, drink alcohol, or operate machinery.
